Upper Utica Canal System

The Upper Utica Canal System delivers water from Hunters Reservoir near Avery, CA to the town of Murphys.

The canal provides raw water to UPUD (Union Public Utility District) for both irrigation and domestic use.

As part of Utica Power Authorities FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) Project #2019 the canal

serves a number of irrigation customers, along with UPUD the remaining water is used to generate

electricity at the Murphys Powerhouse. From Murphys Power house the water continues through the

town of Murphys to the Lower Utica Canal system and on to the City of Angels Camp.
